It's a gloomy Wednesday afternoon here in New York, and while I'd love nothing more than to snuggle under the covers with a hot cappuccino and watch a Bravo marathon, there's something on my mind that I want to talk to you about.
Are you happy?
Like really, truly happy? That's a hard question so I'll give you a second to contemplate it...
Whenever I ask my clients what they want in life, they all simply reply "I want to be happy." But what does that mean? Happiness seems to be this elusive thing that we all want, yet if asked what it is, we can't even define it.
To me, happiness is layered. It's not just a point we arrive at and then hang out at for the rest of our lives. It's work, it's a journey, it's an ongoing experience. I recently watched Oprah interview Happiness Expert Shawn Achor, where he shared the secrets of happy people. He has a brilliant perspective on happiness, so I suggest checking it out if you can.
This interview made me think about my own life, and the lives of the women I work with. The opposite of happiness is sadness. And when most of us experience sadness, we take action to change it. But what's even worse is indifference, Shawn explains. When we're indifferent, we do nothing. We aren't happy, but we aren't sad, so we aren't motivated to do anything about it.
If you're feeling sad over a situation; whether it's a relationship, a crappy job, your living situation, etc., I encourage you to embrace that sadness for a bit. Really dig in to why you're upset, and why you need to change. Use that misery as a catalyst to make positive moves in the right direction to make your life as amazing as it should be.
Remember, creating your Champagne Life means inviting only the best of the best into your world, and eliminating the crap. So if a can of Coors Light has made it's way into your Krug cabinet, it's time to take out the trash.
With love and bubbles,
Cara
